The Division of Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy at the University of Bradford with the Comensusproject at the University of Central Lancashire and Advocacy in Action in Nottingham, have developed on-line learning materials in collaboration with service users and carers. This has involved people sharing their experiences of health and social care, to build the virtual community ‘Bradton’.
The ‘Bradton’ project has created an inter-professional learning and teaching resource that promotes insight into real personal histories. Experiences are presented online in film, audio and transcript by service eligible users or by simulated patients and presented in accessible media rich scenarios.
This project relates closely to government initiatives for service improvement in health and social care and provides the opportunity to work and engage with the wider community. Involvingservice users andcarers in virtual learning allows individuals to share their stories in an online environment and, addresses the need to involve patients and the public in the wider context of health and social care. More recently the project has looked to develop the virtual voluntary sector. This allows voluntary groups to share the good work that they do and provide a teaching resource that promotes insight into the work, funding, location and members of such groups.
The scenarios have been produced as part of a university of Bradford funded project withThe University of Bradford working in collaboration with the University of Central Lancashire, Commensus and Advocacy in Action (Nottingham).
